Trump Protects Women by Gutting Domestic Violence Programs

Trump won't stop harming transgender people under the guise of “protecting women.”

All he and his terrible administration have done since gaining office is defund programs across the country that might actually protect women. And to distract us from that, they use transgender youth and adults in their violent culture war. Their very existence is weaponized against them for a bloodthirsty base hungry for cruelty against people they simply don't understand.

The anti-trans fury often involves the issue of transgender athletes, an almost-impossibly small sliver of people in America.

For example, in February, Trump signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, saying: “Under the Trump administration, we will defend the proud tradition of female athletes, and we will not allow men to beat up, injure, and cheat our women and our girls.”

Because there's nothing that says protecting our women and girls more than genital checks done at random and on request.

Trump's DOJ has also issued a lawsuit against Maine's Department of Education for not following the government’s ban on transgender athletes, saying: “We believe they are failing to protect women, and it's not only an issue in sports. It is a public safety issue." In all of the student athletes in America, fewer than TEN identify as transgender. This is an overreach of government that is ruining the lives of a miniscule minority of US citizens by placing MASSIVE targets on their backs.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills has said there are a total of two transgender athletes in the entire state. Trump is wasting American tax dollars to sue tan entire state for not bullying 2 transgender people. NCAA President Charlie Baker has said that out of more than half a million college athletes in America, there are fewer than 10 who are transgender. The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law estimates that 0.6% of Americans 13 and older identify as transgender. Less than 1% of the population is being litigated against.

1.6 million people in America identify as transgender. The city of Dallas, Texas, has a population of 1.3 million. Houston has 2.3 million. The entire state of Texas has a population of 31 million. If you sent all the transgender people in the US to Texas, it wouldn't even be 5% of the population of the state.

This year alone, 857 bills have been introduced to discriminate against transgender people. So far, 77 have passed.

Texas has proposed 127 of those bills.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women has stripped its website of all funding opportunities, instructing people to “not finalize any applications.”

While this violent rhetoric against transgender people is cloaked as an effort to protect women, the Trump administration's slash-and-burn work at cutting government spending is actively harming women.

April 1 was the first day of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It's also the day the Department of Health and Human Services fired the teams that work on sexual violence prevention.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the federal funding squeeze from cuts either made or attempted by the Trump administration – some of the cuts are in legal limbo – “has meant longer waits on hotlines, fewer hours at shelters and lost positions at nonprofits that help domestic violence and sexual assault victims.”

Ian Henderson, policy and systems director of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault, says that the cuts to federal employees who work with nonprofits have also been devastating: “You had people with decades of experience in sexual violence prevention who are now gone."

The party of family values has defunded a study on reducing maternal mortality.

The administration has pulled funding from a research project that was studying ways to reduce “preventable causes of maternal morbidity and mortality” among domestic abuse victims.

A nonprofit shelter in San Bernardino, California, that helps women facing domestic violence recently received an email saying the federal grant that provides most of its funding had been terminated.

No one should buy the lie that the Trump administration is going after transgender people for the sake of women. Republicans have repeatedly shown they don’t give a single **** about women by repeatedly electing a man found guilty in court of sexual abuse. Who bragged about grabbing women by the pussy. Who hung out in the locker rooms of teen beauty pageants. Who was best friends with Jeffrey Epstein.

The Republican party doesn't just "not care" about women. They hate them.
