Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, are rolling over and allowing a Republican bill to pass that is full of policies that give Trump and Musk unchecked power. He claims to be doing it to prevent a government shutdown.
Not supporting the bill’s passage would mean a government shutdown that would have cleared the way for Trump to fire numerous federal workers, once again taking a chainsaw to the government.
Allowing its passage would avert the shutdown, but allow Trump and Musk to handpick and destroy allocations they don't approve of.
Schumer explained his position in a tweet, saying that a shutdown “would give Donald Trump and Elon Musk carte blanche to destroy vital government services at a significantly faster rate than they can right now.”
“Funding the government should be a bipartisan effort,” Schumer said on the floor Wednesday. “But Republicans chose a partisan path drafting their continuing resolution without any input from congressional Democrats.”
